Performing Afro Celtic Jazz repertoire and storytelling from the albums "Stories to Tell", "Boxing Dreams" and "Set the Hammer Free"
Noonan has continued to gather a collection of legends, stories, and folk music that are improvised and composed from the drum set, in the fashion of an "Irish griot". Inspired by Irish playwright Samuel Beckett's theatre of the absurd, Noonan uses these ingredients that bridges both generations and cultures. Noonan has emerged as part of the next generation of cutting edge music from the Brooklyn underground, incorporating a diverse spectrum of styles ranging from Jazz-Rock, World Music, to Folk and Classical composition. Since 1999, Noonan has produced over 14 albums in his numerous projects that have featured Marc Ribot, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Mat Maneri, Abdoulaye Diabate, and Susan McKeown. "The drummer and composer Sean Noonan approaches postmodern jazz and world music from the same angle of self-discovery ... he manages to make his pieces speak coherently, and in a unified voice." - The New York Times /* */ ?> |
